FIRE & ICE

Few weeks ago, I did a little survey with my Facebook fans about what’s their favorite mythical creature. I was amazed with a lot of suggestions to the point that I have to tally every single vote via the comments.

The original concept is to pick a creature which will I draw as an entry to my Moleskine Doodles series. I really love the concept so I decided to draw it on a bigger sketchbook.

Based from the comments, two mythical creatures we are all familiar with reign supreme.“Fire & Ice” was the resulting doodle, a collision between a phoenix on fire and an icy dragon.

"Saber-tooth"

Wiki Attack: Smilodon is an extinct genus of machairodont felid. It is perhaps the best known saber-toothed cat and lived in North America during the Pleistocene epoch (2.5 mya—10,000 years ago). The nickname “saber-tooth” refers to the extreme length of their maxillary canines. Despite the colloquial name “saber-toothed tiger”, Smilodon is not closely related to the tiger (or any other living felid).

I am receiving a lot of messages and inquiries about the tools I use in my art. Here is a quick round-up:

(from left to right)

UNI PIN FINE LINErs (0.05, 0.1, 0.2, 0.3, 0.5, 0.8 ) - I use them for inking. Bigger points for the outlines while the smaller ones are for detailing and shading.

PENCIL - a basic need.

SHARPIE FINE MARKER - for shading bigger areas of a drawing with black. It saves time instead of using Uni Pin.

WACOM BAMBOO PEN - for digital doodles (mostly for colored doodle projects)

EARPHONES - Music is a basic need for me.

MOLESKINE POCKET SKETCHBOOK - handy and quality sketchbook I use to record my doodles when I’m away from my den.

SMARTPHONE - for fast and easy browsing of images online when reference images for a doodle are needed.

Yay! A week ago, my Facebook page finally reached 10,000+ likes! Unfortunately I was hospitalized last week so this doodle is a bit late. Part of this doodle was actually done when I was on my hospital bed.

MOLESKINE DOODLES Page 27: “Mischievous”

The Joker piece I did a week ago went out crazy and attained so much attention in my social accounts like DeviantArt, shared in various Facebook pages and mentioned in a few art blogs.

I received a few suggestions which character I do next and decide to just stick with drawing villains. It’s time for them to take over the spotlight.

Made a little experiment and came up with this piece featuring Loki Laufeyson, God of Mischief and probably the most loved villain today. My take is a bit more of the Loki we know from the Marvel movies and a bit from the original character from the comic books. :)

So..who will be the next villain?

WE NEED YOUR HELP

It’s all over the news for the past few days now that our country especially the families in Central Visayas experienced great loss after the rampage of Super Typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan) - one of the world’s strongest storms in recorded history.

Watching them crying over the news and begging for help is just heartbreaking. So I wanted to do something to extend a little help by reaching out to the rest of the world through my art.

100% of the November earnings from my Society6 shop will be donated to Philippine Red Cross to extend some help to the families affected.
